Fun fact about me: I love to knit!

I taught myself to crochet when I was in college, and took a knitting class from the lovely @yarnfun518 shortly after. It’s been nothing but knit and purl since!

For the past several months I’ve been thinking of ways to grow Change Your Fate Creations, and something I’m excited about introducing this year are some knitting/crochet/cross stitch/crafting project bags. Of course these bags can be used for just about anything, from diaper bags to big toiletry bags, Ear carriers, and more. Your only limit is your imagination. Why did we feature Beyoncé as our first HerStory recipient of 2019? Oh, let us count the ways: she is unapologetically herself, a Black woman in the United States today. She tells the story of the struggle, and celebrates her culture in a way that is empowering and uplifting. Her recent work is all about telling stories of and for the women who have been left out of so many conversations, those who haven’t had a seat at the table. She uses her art to broaden feminism and center blackness in a time in which we are seeing more in-your-face racism and misogyny than we have seen in a long time.

Beyoncé’s public persona has taken on almost-mythic proportions, striking even in a society that lives to mythologize its celebrities. And she has taken full advantage of that mythologizing, using her celebrity to elevate the black voice, to celebrate Black womanhood, and to refuse to allow even those who have put her on that pedestal to write her narrative. In short, Beyoncé is everything we need in today’s society, plus her music is catchy as hell.

Our Beyoncé-inspired colorway, Goddess, takes both its color inspiration and its name from Beyoncé’s centering of Black feminism, Black beauty, and black motherhood. The gold in the skein is directly inspired by her 2017 Grammy performance, in which an unapologetically pregnant Queen Bey paid homage to multiple goddesses who signify womanhood and fertility, from the African water spirit Mami Wata to Yoruba water goddess Oshun to Hindu goddess Kali. All three of these deities embody feminity, sexuality, and fertility, and Beyoncé channeled every single one in her performance. If you haven’t watched that performance, we strongly suggest you do so, and quickly. The other end of the skein is inspired by the stunning floral arrangements that surrounded her in the pregnancy and birth announcements she shared on Instagram in 2017. Continued in comments

Hello friends! I found Bubble Bath on Sock and it’s listed in the shop! I don’t know about you, but a bubble bath sounds so freaking dreamy. What’s your favorite thing to add to your bath? I usually add bath salts, candles on the edges of the tub for sure, and lately dried flowers.

This past weekend I cast on for #grotine with this gorgeous skein of Single Fingering from @knittedwit and it was love at first stitch! (I’m determined to finish this by next week so I need to knit 10 grams worth of yarn each day to bind off by Tuesday.)

Happy Monday! We’re re-releasing our HerStory colors of years before and first up is Great Heights from January of 2020. We have Sock and Single Fingering ready to ship in the shop! Read on to learn more! Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Mount Everest and complete the Seven Summits.
Tabei came to mountain climbing through sheer force of will; her family didn’t have the money to support her burgeoning hobby as a child, so it wasn’t until she was in college that she was able to fully pursue her mountaineering dreams. She founded the Ladies Climbing Club in 1969, whose slogan was “Let’s go on an overseas expedition by ourselves.” It was revolutionary, to create a woman-only club focused on a male past-time such as mountain climbing; many men thought Tabei’s interest was feigned, solely to secure a husband.
Mountain climbing is not an inexpensive endeavor, so a part of Tabei’s focus was in funding her club’s expeditions. Securing funding for the summiting of Mount Everest seemed an insurmountable obstacle, but Tabei and her team were finally able to do so (while still being tasked with coming up with the equivalent of a year’s salary each) in the early 1970s. They were told, quite frequently, that they “should be raising children instead,” but their passion for climbing carried them through. The climb itself was arduous, as any climb to the summit of Mount Everest is. Tabei and her team were caught in an avalanche (like literally buried in snow), but still persevered, and on May 16, 1975, Tabei and her Sherpa guide Ang Tsering reached the summit of Mount Everest, the first woman ever to do so. But Tabei didn’t stop there; over the next 30 years, she would go on to become the first woman to complete the Seven Summits (the highest points on all seven continents), and would eventually summit mountains in over 76 countries, all while raising a family and, for the final four years of her life, fighting cancer. Her personal life-mantra was: “Do not give up. Keep on your quest.” She kept on her quest, throughout her life, inspiring countless other women to push through the sexism, misogyny, and complete unwillingness to recognize that a woman could and would want to

Remember Sassy Holiday colors? We’re bringing them back! We’ll share two new colors a month over the next year. Previously these colors were only available at yarn shops. January has Bubble Bath Day at the beginning of the month and I really couldn’t think of a more fitting color for the month! Baths are the best in the winter, trying to get warm and relaxed after a busy day. The colors hint at the iridescent colors of bubbles, and it’s just the happiest! Available in the etsy shop on Pixie Plied, Single Fingering, and Worsted.
